'Avengers: Infinity War' spoilers: New set photo may hint at a big Hulk twist

The Hulk in "Thor: Ragnarok" Marvel

Mark Ruffalo has once teased that there will be major changes to his character, the Hulk, culminating in the last "Avengers" installment. While it remains to be seen what those will be, a new set photo may have just teased what will happen to him in "Avengers: Infinity War."

A new set photo taken by Atlanta Filming sees Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) kneeling in front of a bewildered-looking Bruce Banner, while Wong (Benedict Wong) is doing some sort of incantation beside him. The strange thing about all this is there is a giant hand that is approaching Banner's neck.

This motion-capture hand could, of course, be that of the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), but there is another and a much more intriguing option as well. It could actually be the Hulk's.

According to Comic Book, the hand prop is usually used to film scenes for the big Avenger. This suggests Banner may finally be separated from his green roommate. After fighting each other internally for control all throughout the Marvel films, they may meet face-to-face for a physical one in "Infinity War."

At the D23 Expo in July, Ruffalo teased a big character development for the green Avenger that would start in "Thor Ragnarok" and end in "Avengers 4."

"There's a huge change for Hulk and for Banner, and it isn't resolved in the first Infinity War," he told Fandango. "It sort of culminates into the second Infinity War."

Indeed, fans saw a more intelligent Hulk in the last "Thor" film. After remaining in his form for two years, Hulk has developed speaking abilities and a variety of emotions unlike before, which was solely limited to anger. His and Banner's separation could very well be next.

It is a little hard to say how they will achieve such, but with Wong on-site, magic will likely play a significant part. Fans can only speculate for now.

"Avengers: Infinity War" will open in theaters on May 4, 2018, to be followed by its yet-to-be-titled sequel on May 3, 2019.
