5 Christian movies you should watch

Movies and films have become powerful tools to convey messages to the general public, and some Christian filmmakers have taken their faith and converted them into video.

While some people watch movies to experience the thrill of an action movie, the suspense of a horror flick or the entertainment of a comedy film, believers can also watch movies that can help build their faith. Here are some Christian movies that you should watch with your family and friends.

"Fireproof"

"Fireproof" follows the story of decorated fireman Caleb Holt and his wife, and their marriage that is going up in flames. When Caleb takes to God his relationship with his wife, he sees a change not only in his circumstance but a change in himself. The movie was directed by Alex Kendrick and features Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea.

"God's Not Dead"

As a young man (Shane Harper) refuses to deny his faith in a class where his professor (Kevin Sorbo) requires all students to do so, he is challenged by his teacher to defend his faith against atheist theories and beliefs. "God's Not Dead" was created by Prefix Entertainment and directed by Harold Cronk. The movie also features famous Christian band the Newsboys.

"War Room"

The Jordan family may seem to have it all- great careers, a wonderful house and enough money to live luxuriously. But when Elizabeth Jordan is confronted with burn-out from constantly fighting with her husband Tony, her client, Miss Clara, introduces to her a new way of fighting- not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and spirital forces. "War Room" was released last August 2015 and is also directed by Alex Kendrick.

"Woodlawn"

"Woodlawn" is based on the true story of a public high school that is at the brink of shut down when desegregation brings violence and turmoil into the insitution. When all hope is lost, football coach Tandy Gerelds (Nic Bishop) brings in a volunteer team chaplain (Sean Astin) to minister hope to a football team, which then sparks a spiritual revival in the school and in the whole town.

"Facing the Giants"

In another football movie, director Alex Kendrick takes his acting into the mix where he plays a Christians high school coach Grant Taylor who experiences struggles at work and at home. On top of parents threatening to remove him of his livelihood, his wife is faced with infertility problems. Through the trials, Taylor tries to bring hope and faith into a team that has never had a winning season for more than six years.
