5 Bible verses that make change a lot less scary

We hear all the time that change is good but that doesn't make it any easier when we're faced with it. Most of us are creatures of comfort and we find security in our routines and knowing what's coming next. The uncertainty of what lies ahead and a nostalgia for whatever or whoever we're leaving behind can all contribute to us feeling fearful about the prospect and process of change. When we're undergoing change or embarking on a new life journey it helps to have something constant to comfort us. We often trust in things, places or people that remain the same while we're changing as we know we can return to them and experience their familiarity. During times of change we can look to Jesus to be that constant, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever," (Hebrews 13:8). Even though change can be scary it can lead to new experiences which can provide us with greater fulfilment and enable us to mature and grow spiritually. It's also something that God wants us to do as we can see from some of the Bible passages below. You may find the following five Bible verses are useful if you're confronting change in any guise.

Joshua 1:9 - Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 - Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 - There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

Ephesians 4:22-24 - You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
