3 tips to having a strong devotional life

Having a strong devotional life is very important for every Christian who wants to grow in their relationship with God and in growing towards Christ-likeness. Thus, we should all give efforts to strengthen our personal time with God on a daily basis.

Are you having struggles in maintaining and growing your devotional life with the Lord? Here are some tips that will help you.

1. Consider God's Word your daily food

Food is an essential part of our lives, and we all need it to live. Just like our physical bodies need food and the nutrients that it brings, our spiritual selves need spiritual nourishment, too. This nourishment can only come from the Word of God.

Let's consider how Job was able to withstand what he faced. In his response to Eliphaz, Job specifically mentioned how important God's Word was to him, in Job 23:12.

"I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food."

When we consider God's Word as "more than daily food," we will realise that we couldn't live without it, and we will prayerfully search for it all the time, starting in the morning to late in the evening.

2. Realise how important it really is

Aside from seeing the Word as our main source of nourishment in our walk with God, we should also see the gravity of not having to rely on it: We are utterly hopeless without it.

Psalm 119:41-43 shows us just how important the Word of God is to us.

"Lord, give me your unfailing love, the salvation that you promised me. Then I can answer those who taunt me, for I trust in your word. Do not snatch your word of truth from me, for your regulations are my only hope."

Truth be told, brothers and sisters, no Christian could ever find hope aside from the Word of God. Jesus Himself, the Hope of all the earth, is "the Word made flesh" (see John 1:14). Think about it.

3. Rely on God's Word for daily instruction

My friends, God's Word is the ultimate source of instruction. We need to train ourselves to daily seek for instruction in its pages. Men of God in Old and New Testament times relied on it, and so should we. Here are just some verses that will tell us how important it is for our daily walk.

"Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." (Psalm 119:105)

"Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil." (Psalm 119:133)

"Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life." (Psalm 119:104)

Go with prayer

Friends, don't ever forget to pray. Prayer goes with Bible reading and obeying. These should never go separate ways.
