3 things you can do in your lunchbreak to build up your relationship with God

If every moment of our lives is an opportunity to grow our relationship with God, then our lunchbreak might pretty much be one of the most important moments in our day. Did you know that while taking a break to have that midday meal, you can further your relationship with the Lord?

Yes, you can.

I'd like to share with you a few things that you can do in order to make your lunchbreak more than just a time to eat good food. It can also be a good time to bond with our Father in heaven.

Are you ready to take lunch to whole new level? Here are some things you can do:

1) Spend time reading your Bible

Lunchbreaks normally take an hour or so. For some, it's as short as half an hour. No matter how long or short your break is, you can allot a chunk of your time to read God's word.

Bring a Bible with you to the workplace. If you're not able to do that, then a Bible app on your smartphone or any other device will greatly help.

Read a short passage or chapter from your Bible, preferably where you left off from your personal devotion times. Or carry a devotional book in your bag.

If you don't have such a habit, lunchbreaks can be a good place to start developing one.

2) Take a moment to pray

No, I'm not talking about the prayer before you eat your lunch. I'm talking about spending time in prayer before you have to resume your work. That's a good time to connect with God.

If you have a cubicle in the office, close the door and pray for a while. You can even pray in the restroom if you have no other option - yes the restroom!  Sharing your heart with God is more important than where you're sharing your heart with God.

Or if you really don't feel comfortable praying in your workplace, you can write out your prayers in a prayer journal or go on a prayer walk in the nearby park.

3) Obey the word of God

Nothing is as good as obedience to God's word when it comes to building a strong relationship with Him. Did you know that if you want to be intimate with God, you'll need Prayer, Bible reading, and Bible obeying?

The Lord Jesus said, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him." (see John 14:23)

If we want to build our relationship with God, we've got to have less of ourselves and more of Him. We do that by denying ourselves and obeying Him, even in our workplaces.

Find a way to obey God's word where you work. Whether it's to work excellently for the Lord or do good things that will bless others, or simply share the Gospel to your colleagues while living a God-glorifying life, you'll do well.

God bless you!
