The 2019 Lamborghini Urus made its U.S. debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this week. For their third production model, the Italian luxury automaker decided to create a high-performance vehicle with unmistakable Lamborghini DNA that is incorporated into an alluring SUV body style.
"What is important is this car has been engineered with the target to have two souls. One is the soul of a super sports car... On the other side, we have to have a car that could give another user profile that is more versatile, family-oriented, adventure-oriented, different-ground oriented," Federico Foschinio, chief commercial officer for Lamborghini, told The Detroit News.
The result of this concerted effort is the 2019 Urus — a Super SUV powered by 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 650 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and comes standard with a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 3.6 seconds and attains a top speed of 189 mph. According to the Italian automaker, the 2019 Urus is the fastest SUV in the market.
Performance, safety and comfort are also enhanced thanks to the standard carbon ceramic brakes which are the largest on any production car. The front features 10-piston calipers and measures 17.3 inches while the rear has four-piston calipers and measures 14.6 inches at the rear. There is also an adaptive air suspension that raises the Super SUV's ground clearance from 6.2 to 9.8 inches as well as active roll stabilization and 21-inch wheels.
As such, the 2019 Urus is suitable for both everyday driving and off-road adventures. For customers who want even more capability, the Super SUV can be equipped with additional off-road components such as metal-reinforced bumpers and Pirelli tires.
The 2019 Lamborghini Urus is available to order with a starting price of $200,000. First deliveries are scheduled to begin in September.
